North East: Atlantic Coastal Plains The land that extends from the the Atlantic Coast in New England to the Appalachian foothills. This area is swampy with good farm land. In the south the farmers grew tabacco, rice, beans, and indigo in colonial times.

South East: Atlantic Coastal Plains The land that extends from the the Atlantic Coast in New England to the Appalachian foothills. This area is swampy with good farm land. In the south the farmers grew tabacco, rice, beans, and indigo in colonial times.

Appalachian Region- The Appalachian mountains are the older of the two ranges worn down by erosion. This area has many natural resources like coal, lumber, and minerals.

Midwest: Area between the Mountains and the Plains. It has good soil and plenty of water. It is great for farming and transportation on rivers.

Pacific Coastal Plain: Along the coast of the Pacific Ocean and boarded by the Cascade Mountains and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this area stretches from Alaska to Mexico.  It includes the states of California, Oregon, and Washington. This region includes the giant redwood trees and many fruit growing areas.

Interior Plains: "Great Plains" This is the large grassland in the middle of the United States. The Mississippi River flows through this area. It also has rich farming soil. During the 1930's the soil was over used and turned this area into the "dust bowl."

Western Plateau/ Great Basin: This area includes the Mountain Ranges of the Cascades and the Sierra Nevada's. It also includes deserts like Death Valley. It also includes the Colorado Plateau with really interesting land forms.

Rocky Mountians
This the is the longest and tallest Mountain Range in North America. This is where the Continental Divide is, or the place in the continent where the rivers flow towards the Pacific Ocean instead of the Atlantic. These mountains are steep and difficult to cross which led to hard travels for settlers of the West in the 1800's.
