NTI Day #3

Hi everyone for NTI day #3 we are going to do SCIENCE!
Write it on a piece of paper, print it out and write it, or copy and paste it with answers on an email to me at elizabeth.forrester@graves.kyschools.us

CLICK HERE FOR FORM TO FILL OUT: This is the same thing as this post, you just don't have to use paper and pencil.

Just like always, we are going to do an experiment! It is connected to NGSS standard: PS1-1

words to know:
particle: Part of a whole
atom: Smallest building blocks of matter
molecule: different atoms put together to form substances
microscopic: too small to be seen without a microscope
macroscopic: large enough to be seen

Question: How do I know that there is something (particles) present, even if I can't see them?

Research:

video 2

Hypothesis: I do not think there are particles too small to be seen OR I do think there are particles too small to be seen.

Experiment:
CHOOSE ONE or more if you want

1. Blow up a balloon- record results, does it get bigger? Can you see what is inside it? What can you you concluded?

2. Mix salt into a glass of water- results: Can you see the salt? Can you taste the salt? How do you know it is, or is not in there?

3. Mix sugar into a glass of water- results: Can you see the sugar? Can you taste the sugar? How do you know it is in there or not?

Record of experiment:

Analysis:
*State whether you proved or did not prove your hypothesis based on your results. Justify your answer (why do you think that you did or did not prove it.)

Reading passage:
reading passage
Questions:
1. Why do you think that they can smell the brownies without seeing them?

2. Mom makes a joke, "You can't trust them, they make up everything." Why is it true ?

3. From what you already know, which model that the boys make would have the atoms/ molecules furthest apart?
